Filipino Families Connecting through Tagalog

With about 4.1 million Filipino Americans living in the United States (as of 2022), numerous Filipino American families are realizing that the opportunity to preserve and transmit their cultural heritage through language is diminishing. As a minority group, it is common for individuals to struggle to maintain fluent in Philippine languages due to limited exposure. Factors such as American colonial influence, accent apprehension, assimilation pressures, and language barriers contribute to this trend. Presently, Filipino descendants are striving to reclaim their language and culture, aiming to instill a sense of pride in their children while preserving their unique identity.

 Have you ever attempted to establish a connection with your mother, your grandmother, or ancestors from a different country? I have an incredibly amazing mother, and I wanted to try doing the same because my dreams of having children have now become a reality. One thing I was certain I could do for my children was to help them learn more Tagalog and Visayas. Therefore, I started writing for them and for other Filipino families living abroad.

It is my honor to be able to pass on the beautiful language of Tagalog to the next generation and help Filipino families connect through Tagalog. I hope to let you in on a new book about a Filipino American family soon. Until then, Happy Filipino American History Month!
